EXIDA CERTIFIES BURNER CONTROL FOR SAFETY PER IEC 61508

SELLERSVILLE, PA —exida, a global supplier of functional safety products, services, and certifications, has certified the product reliability and design for a well known international company’s burner control as Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 capable per IEC 61508.

“The company has demonstrated that its product design and development processes meet the requirements of the IEC 61508 safety standard,” says Michael Medoff, senior safety engineer at exida. “The burner control meets all the requirements of SIL 3 with a Hardware Fault Tolerance of zero.  That means it can be provide a SIL 3 combustion control Safety Integrity Function without redundancy”.

exida performed a detailed proven in use study by reviewing field warranty return and product shipment data. They also performed a Failure Mode Effect and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA), a structured, quantitative analysis which predicts failure rates, modes, and diagnostic coverage and their effects on system operation.
