SIL Verification Presentation to be Given in Australia

  April 02, 2018

Eric Scharpf will be presenting the topic ‘SIL Verification: Getting It Right and Making It Better’, organized by IICA. The presentation will be held on 10 April 2018 in Sydney.

Presentation Overview:

This session will first look into the critical considerations and assumptions behind the main AS 61511 SIL Verification requirements of PFDavg, Fault Tolerance and Systematic Failure Management. For PFDavg, we will consider how to ensure we have valid failure rate data and how to meet all of the additional AS 61511 requirements for proof testing, equipment maintenance failures, unusual voting structures, etc. Next we will explore how to use SIL Verification to optimise the SIF design and look back to see if we can optimise our other protection layers to achieve the most effective overall risk management. This will include some examples using the exSILentia® SILver™ SIL Verification software. Then we will finish with how to manage the additional AS 61511 requirement for collecting SIS performance data to ensure that our SIL Verification predictions are actually met in practice and what to do if they are not.
