IEC 61508 is a detailed standard for functional safety. It is used to certifiy equipment as well as systems. This seminar presents an overview of the standard, the equipment certification process and an overview of equipment certification requirements. The seminar examples include a microprocessor based sensor, a microprocessor based control system and a simple mechanical device.
