  • Functional Safety Hardware Engineer
  • Senior Functional Safety Hardware Engineer
  • Principle Functional Safety Hardware Engineer

In these roles, you will develop and grow our automation functional safety and cybersecurity certification business and provide guidance, analysis and auditing consultation to product development organizations. What you’re good at 

You are technically minded, detail-oriented and keep up to date on the latest in electrical engineering requirements and trends. You are process-oriented and hands-on along with being an approachable leader with skill in providing support in an advisory role. Reporting to the Director of Certification, you will:

  • Oversee product assessment and certification for functional safety standards for industrial automation, machines, on-road and off-road automotive, as well as fire and gas;
  • Perform audits for design companies focusing on their electronic hardware engineering processes and designs;
  • Conduct engineering process analysis and failure modes, effects and diagnostic analyses;
  • Create detailed hardware architectural reviews and hardware FMEAs;
  • Develop detailed product safety cases to show compliance with functional safety standards;
  • Interpret standards requirements and document procedures for assessment;
  • Conduct training in good development processes and Functional Safety requirements;
  • Support business development efforts, creating proposals, presenting to clients and participating in the RFP process;
  • Produce thought leadership (e.g., articles and whitepapers) that demonstrate exida’s domain expertise in hardware design;
  • Represent and promote exida at industry meetings, conferences and industry committees;
  • Develop proposals, budgets and timesheet recordings as required.

Skills and Requirements:

  • B.S. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field;
  • Expertise in product design and development, including hardware design, circuit board analysis, embedded microcomputer-based systems and quality assurance;
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills;
  • U.S. work authorization;
  • Successful completion of background check.

Desired Qualifications:

  • CFSE or CFSP certification;
  • Experience with real-time embedded software development;
  • Experience with IEC 61508 or ISO 13849 functional safety standards;
  • Knowledge of integrated circuit technology;
  • Foundation in the cause and mitigation of security vulnerabilities;
  • Knowledge of networking and communication protocols;
  • Knowledge of hardware description languages (e.g., Verilog or VHDL);
  • Experience creating security threat models for products and/or systems;
  • Understanding of security concepts such as identification and authentication, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, secure boot and PKI.
