Functional Safety Consulting Engineer

Benchmark alarm system performance through software tools and operator interviews; Lead the development of alarm management philosophy documents; Organize, lead, and facilitate alarm rationalization; Lead / facilitate HAZOPs and LOPAs; Perform SIS Design activities and calculations including SIL Selection and SIL Verification; Lead customer training on exida products such as exSILentia® and SILAlarm™; Develop and / or deliver training courses in Alarm Management; Support product testing and ongoing enhancement of exida’s software tools; Support business development efforts; Present at technical conferences and symposiums; and Participate in industry standards development. Job requirements: Knowledge of controls engineering and control systems (Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell PlantPAx); Must have performed SIL calculations; Alarm rationalization participation experience; PHA/LOPA scribing experience; Participation experience in Alarm Philosophy Workshop per requirements in ISA 18.2; Participation experience in Functional Safety Assessments per requirements in IEC 61511 and IEC 61508; Strong knowledge of safety instrumented system design and application; Strong knowledge of alarm management principles and best practices; Teaching experience required; and Experiences in writing and developing operational procedures required.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Reliability Engineering or a related science degree and at least three (3) years of experience as Functional Safety Consultant or related occupation. CFSP Certificate Required. Personal Certifications demonstrating familiarity with key standards: IEC 61508 and IEC61511 / ISA-84. Travel required within the U.S. and Internationally (50%).
