The International Society of Automation (ISA) announced that exida’s Chief Technology Officer Iwan van Beurden has received the distinguished membership grade of ISA Fellow for development of probabilistic analysis safety verification data, methods, and tools used to improve the safety lifecycle in the process industries. ISA Fellow status is granted…
This webinar is a collaboration with MICROPACK (Engineering) Ltd with special guest James McNay.
Certifying detectors is an important step in achieving and reassuring safety for Fire and Gas Systems (FGS). How these products are used in a system is just as important.
With an increased scrutiny and more robust requirements, Fire and Gas (F&G) Mapping has become a critical step. How would one review the F&G coverage of a facility is adequate? What yardstick would be used in determining suitability of the system? How do we audit this coverage in light of facility modifications throughout the facility lifecycle?
This webinar will not only talk about certifying a F&G product but will also investigate the typical processes of a F&G Mapping exercise and discuss the benefits of a consistent approach to FGS Design throughout the lifecycle of a facility.
An article authored by exida's director of Alarm Management services Todd Stauffer, P.E.has been published in the September 2017 Chemical Engineering Process (CEP) magazine . The article is entitled Plug the Holes in the Swiss Cheese Model . Stop using operator error as an excuse. Apply human factors considerations to…

In today’s market, proof of competency is becoming more and more important. exida’s Functional Safety Practitioner (FSP) program is a certificate program that addresses a growing need to provide confirmation that an attendee shows competency by retaining the knowledge presented in various exida academy courses (like FSE 100 - IEC 61511: Functional Safety Analysis, Design, and Operation).
The FSP program provides an analysis of where the candidate’s strengths and weaknesses lie and also helps a participant judge their competency level if interested in obtaining a certification like the CFSP or CFSE.

An article entitled Are Your Safety Instrumented Systems Proof Tests Effective? authored by exida Senior Engineer Loren Stewart has been published in Valve Magazine . Many people assume that a proof test of a safety function is 100% effective. Depending on the test used, this may very well be wrong.…
In this video, exida's Steve Gandy explains how Proof Test Coverage can affect the SIL Rating of your Safety Instrumented Function (SIF). In particular, he looks at Low Demand SIFs in a process application.
