Functional Safety standards have established an ingenious, systematic method for management of risk. This method does not provide prescriptive designs for safety functions but instead establishes performance targets based on risk reduction need. Safety function designers are free to provide optimal designs. But must then show that these designs meet the performance targets based on justification and quantitative analysis. This webinar explains those tasks, then focuses on the most important target, the PFDavg calculation. Credible failure rate data is needed for that task and it will be shown that not all data is credible.
