Understanding FMEDA Results

Failure Modes Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) has been used extensively by most major instrumentation manufacturers in the world to provide the best possible source of information for safety performance analysis. However, FMEDA results must be understood along with limitations on usage. This web seminar describes the FMEDA process and the results obtained for a process industry transmitter and a solenoid valve. An example SIF verification calculation is shown using those results. The application environment is described along with limitations on the usage of the data.

Dr. William Goble, CFSE
Dr. Goble has over 40 years of professional experience. He is widely recognized as an expert in programmable electronic systems analysis, safety and high availability automation systems, automation systems new product development and market analysis. He developed many of the techniques used for probabilistic evaluation of safety and high availability automation systems. He has published many papers and magazine articles. Dr. Goble has a BSEE from Penn State, a MSEE from Villanova and a PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
