Webinar - Is Your SIS as Reliable as You Think? The Hidden Risk of “Run-to-Fail”

Some people believe that having a run-to-fail policy for SIS is acceptable given the reliability of modern equipment.  This is fine for a Basic Process Control System (BPCS) that is in constant motion but not for SIS.  Even though both may be performing similar functions, the SIS is designed for prevention with Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) to provide a level(s) of risk reduction represented by a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) to protect against a specific hazard; typically, the SIS is static, just monitoring the process.  To maintain the SIL of each SIF, regular testing is required together with monitoring the Useful Life of the SIF devices.  During Useful Life, we can assume a constant failure rate for the device(s), beyond which we cannot.  Therefore, equipment will need to be replaced and/or refurbished to as Good as New condition to maintain the SIF integrity.  The webinar will illustrate the importance of tracking Useful Life and its correlation to the SIL of each SIF.
