In this video, exida's Patrick Healy and Chris O'Brien discuss notified bodies and their role within machine applications. They also cover conformity assessments (why they're needed and what's involved), the machinery directive (the directive and regulation that is driving this requirement) and how exida might be able to help you with your products and projects.
exida is excited to announce that Univers has achieved the ISASecure® Security Development Lifecycle Assurance (SDLA) certification on 27 September 2023. ISASecure SDLA is the certification program that applies to the development lifecycle processes of suppliers for control system products. This certification demonstrates Univers compliance to IEC 62443-4-1 Security for…
As with any engineering task, having all the information needed will save time. A complete FMEA is an important input to the FMEDA task although many practitioners do not realize the importance of the FMEA. If the FMEA is done well and updated to verify design changes as they ae made, that result benefits the FMEDA the most. As our objective is to save total engineering time, it makes sense to use FMEA methods that are easy to update during the design process. This webinar will explain what FMEA information is valuable to the FMEDA.
Many never think of creating “Integration Test Objectives” during an FMEA. But that time can be the opportune time to create these test objectives when immersed in the context of the different Architecture Design Block and their functions. Integration tests can possibly be used to justify low likelihood for a given failure mode.
In the past integration test were defined much later in the development process after or as the prototype comes to life. Then the test creator must go back to the documentation (mostly the FMEA) and spend time to re-establish architecture context. As our objective is to save total engineering time, it makes sense to define integration tests during the FMEA.

Over the last few decades, the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) design verification technique has shown its value by finding problems/issues early in the development process. However, some FMEA procedures have become quite complex and time consuming. Engineering managers in some industries challenge the value of an FMEA versus the cost in hours consumed. An FMEA can become even more valuable if total engineering hours are reduced. What is needed is a “Streamlined FMEA.” This webinar will discuss past FMEA experience, identify issues that consume engineering hours, and describe potential solutions with a Functional Architecture Design FMEA example.

The Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) design verification technique benefitted greatly by the invention of the spreadsheet. Compared to the paper forms, the spreadsheet worked great. Even better than the early word processors. Today it is estimated that a significant number of FMEA are still done with spreadsheets. This can certainly be done. However, FMEA tools were created to improve FMEA quality and provide better documentation. Next Generation FMEA tools are even better. This webinar will describe how to use a spreadsheet for FMEA and compare the spreadsheet to an FMEA tool.
