SILAlarm™
SILAlarm tool for Alarm Rationalization
Price: Available upon request
SILAlarm™ is a tool for facilitating and documenting the results of alarm rationalization in a master alarm database. It was developed in accordance with the ISA-18.2 standard “Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries” and EEMUA 191. SILAlarm guides a rationalization team through a systematic, tailorable process of reviewing, justifying and documenting the design of each alarm:
Evaluation of Consequences & Time to Respond ● Prioritization ● Document Cause, Consequence, Confirmation, Corrective Action, Design Intent, Testing Requirements ● Classification ● Setpoint (Limit) Determination ● Setting of Deadbands and On/Off Delays ● Alarm Suppression / Advanced Alarming ● Functional Safety Management ● Routing of Alarm Messages
It provides the following functionality applicable to new and existing systems:
- Define the rules for rationalization and design (prioritization, classification, etc.) based on the user’s unique alarm philosophy document.
- Build the master alarm database by importing alarm information from a spreadsheet or by creating alarms from scratch.
- Clone rationalized alarms (using a template approach) or copy design details to similar alarms.
- Export alarm design details for automatic configuration of alarm attributes in the control system.
- Spreadsheet interface provides powerful filtering capability and viewing of key alarm attributes and status at a glance.
- Calculate alarm limit taking into account constraints, normal operating limits, process dynamics, operator response time, and process safety time.
- Supports the engineering and design of alarm suppression techniques including shelving, first-out alarming, alarm flood suppression, and state-based suppression.
- Define state-based alarming scenarios to specify alarm limit, priority, operator response, etc., as a function of operating state.
- Supports tracking of alarm rationalization status, management of change, and auditing / comparison of the differences between the master alarm database and the control system.
- Analyze alarm priority distribution for comparison to industry benchmarks.
- Generate operator alarm response procedures for training or integration into the control system.
SILAlarm supports compliance with industry standards, guidelines and regulations on alarm management (e.g. ISA-18.2, EEMUA 191, API RP 1167). It includes a comprehensive user manual defining how to use the tool as well as tips and techniques on how to apply alarm management good engineering practices to rationalization.
SILHazop™
HAZOP study and management software structured to aid the complete process with:
- Significant time savings
- The HAZOP team captured for each assessment
- Assessment of process nodes and lines by ‘deviations’
- Simplistic line and node tracking
- Assigned severity by ‘cause/consequence pairs’
- Proposed safeguards and flags for SIL determination
- Facilities to raise actions during HAZOP with direct e-mail option
- Managed Action responses and HAZOP close-out
- Comprehensive user defined reporting
- Export of HAZOP findings into SILClass™ and SILLopa
SILHazop™ Features
The SILHazop™ ‘front end’ application contains the following functionality:
- The direct import of HAZOP team disciplines, fluids, guidewords, lines, nodes, causes, consequences, measurement types, measurement units, parameters, priorities and HAZOP team pool.
- Export of the above plus a preformatted export of the required Safety Instrumented functions which can be imported into SILClass™ and SILLopa™. The HAZOP findings can also be directly imported into SILLopa™.
- Complete structured Worksheets for the HAZOP assessments for process nodes and lines by using all the traditional guidewords and parameters (deviations) and track all adjacent lines and nodes.
- Configurable parameter sets for each line or node to remove unnecessary review work and pull down glossary selections to significantly reduce data input time.
- The HAZOP team and details can be captured for each assessment with actions recorded and em-ailed directly from the application during a HAZOP review meeting if required.
- HAZOP action responses can be logged to aid management and close out.
- User configured reporting to provide fully comprehensive or summary output.
The independent ‘back end’ database can contain the following specific data:
- Multiple system creation
- Multiple database creation
- Plant lines and Nodes
- Process measurements
- Measurement units
- Fluids
- Guidewords
- Parameters
- Safeguards
- HAZOP team pool
