EXIDA ANNOUNCES NEW TOOLS TO PREVENT ALARM FLOODS

  March 31, 2016

exida is pleased to announce that its newly released SILAlarm™ V2.10 rationalization tool supports the design and automatic configuration of new DeltaV™ Alarm Suppression modules.  These modules eliminate alarm floods by suppressing alarms from the operator when predefined conditions are met and help users comply with the ISA-18.2 and IEC 62682 standards.

Alarm suppression logic runs natively in Emerson Process Management’s DeltaV distributed control system instead of externally in a supervisory PC. This eliminates the need for OPC communication and its inherent security concerns, while delivering optimum performance and robustness. Faceplates, status displays, and suppressed alarm lists are available in the DeltaV Human Machine Interface (HMI) to support operator situation awareness.

“Eliminating alarm floods is one of the most challenging issues facing operating plants today,” says Kim VanCamp, Emerson’s DeltaV Product Manager. “These flood suppression modules can be applied to an installed DeltaV system without touching existing code.”

“The ability to auto-configure the logic in the DeltaV system right from SILAlarm saves time, cost, and reduces the chance for error,” says Todd Stauffer, exida Director of Alarm Management. “The design documented in SILAlarm can be audited against the logic to manage change and maintain integrity.”
