Session ID: 2115 – The Functional Safety Certification Process (45 Minutes)

This presentation describes a functional safety certification process including criteria, typical sequence steps, and important design requirements.  Product Managers will learn what is takes to achieve IEC 61508 certification for their company’s products. Owner-Operators will see why this scheme helps manufacturers provide safer, more reliable, and secure products.  The 3051 pressure transmitter and the CHARMS SIS logic solver will be used as examples of how the process works and how the results benefit safety designs.

Session ID: 2064 – How to Create an Effective Alarm Management Program for your DeltaV System (45 Minutes)

With the introduction of new alarm management standards (ISA-18.2 and IEC-62682 (draft)) and guidelines (EEMUA 191 Edition 3), companies are being driven to develop and implement alarm management programs that follow good engineering practices and improve operations. This presentation discusses tools and techniques that can help DeltaV users follow industry best practices, including the alarm management lifecycle (a work-process first defined in ISA-18.2). Specific topics include benchmarking initial performance, developing an alarm philosophy, alarm rationalization, implementing designed suppression and alarm shelving, creation of alarm response procedures, and monitoring & assessment of alarm system performance.
