exida will be exhibiting and presenting at the 2013 Emerson Global User Exchange September 30 – October 4, 2013 in Grapevine, TX. Stop by Booth # 320 during exhibit hours.  Also, Dr. William Goble, Principal Partner and Todd Stauffer, exida Director of Alarm Management are among the presenters at this year’s event.  Please see below for the complete schedule of exida involved presentations.

Workshop: 10-5022 - Improve SIL Verification with the New 2H Approach per IEC 61508 (45 Minutes)

Any SIF design requires users to meet three distinct requirements – Systematic Capability, SIL Probability of Failure on Demand, and Architectural Constraints. Adding Type A devices (simple devices, such as remote seals and primary elements) to Type B devices (smart, microprocessor based) can require redundancy in SIL 2 applications per 1H architectural constraints. With the 2010 version of the IEC 61508 standard, users can take advantage of the 2H approach to eliminate architectural constraints, reducing redundancy requirements. This paper will explain the new 2H approach and its benefits.

Workshop: 8-5209 - How to Create an Effective Alarm Management Program for your DeltaV System (45 Minutes)

With the introduction of the ISA-18.2 alarm management standard, companies are being driven to develop and implement alarm management programs that follow good engineering practices and improve operations. This presentation discusses tools and techniques that can help DeltaV users follow the ISA-18.2 alarm management lifecycle (the “blueprint” for an effective program). Specific topics include developing an alarm philosophy, alarm rationalization, implementing designed suppression and alarm shelving, creation of alarm response procedures, and monitoring & assessment of alarm system performance.
