Recorded Webinars: Lessons from ISA / IEC 62443-2-1 Assessments

Cybersecurity is becoming an ever-increasing part of daily life for organizations who own, operate, or maintain industrial sites. As more asset owners focus on securing their industrial networks, the most common question we have seen is “What do I need to do to be secure my site?” It seems like a simple question, but effective cybersecurity means managing not just the technical aspects but the personal and procedural aspects as well. In this webinar we will look at how the ISA/ IEC 62443-2-1 standard can be used to assess the procedural aspects of industrial cybersecurity as well as lessons learned from applying the standard in real-world sites including common challenges and key corrective actions.

Recorded Webinars: What Does Root Cause Analysis Mean?

This webinar addresses the value and importance of investigating Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) failures to root cause. Many companies do not understand why this is important because of either a lack of understanding, manpower issues and/or time pressure to restore the SIS.

The webinar emphasizes the fact that IEC61511 requires SIS failures to be investigated, therefore, we need to understand how the SIS has failed. For example, did it fail-safe, fail dangerously, was it a random failure or a systematic failure? Many times, SIS failures are either dismissed as being systematic or simply having the faulty equipment replaced without fully understanding why it failed and how. It should also be remembered that the probabilistic calculations performed on Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) are based upon random failures. If failures are not properly classified, then this will lead to lower random failures, which in turn can lead to very low and dangerously optimistic estimates on PFDavg or PFH. Consequently, this leads to overstating the risk reduction being provided by the SIF.

What you will learn?

  • What are the key benefits
  • The difference between random and systematic failures
  • The need to identify whether failures are safe or dangerous
  • Properly classifying failures and how to improve performance

Who should attend?

  • Maintenance personnel
  • Plant Managers and Supervisors
