This paper describes methodology used to determine the architectural constraints of a partial final element consisting of a Emergency Release Coupling (ERC) assembly. Special attention is drawn to the disparity between the SFF calculation methods of the first and second editions of IEC 61508.
The results are presented in the form of tables that demonstrate the SFF calculated for various interface architectures.
