I recall the first time I was called an “expert.” I thought that sounded nice. I spotted a magazine article on safety and thought “I do not have to read that as I am an expert.” I quickly recovered. The real problem with being called an expert is that many…
The failure rates of certain mechanical components used in solenoid valves, actuators, and valves vary substantially depending on operation. For example, seals such as o-rings have fundamentally different failure modes when used in applications with frequent movement (dynamic) versus applications with infrequent movement (static). exida has accumulated over sixty billion unit operating hours of field failure data primarily from the process industries which was used in recent mechanical failure research. This webinar explains some results from this recent exida research where failure rates and failure modes of several mechanical components were established. This seminar is useful for anyone planning proof testing for mechanical SIF devices and anyone who wants to understand field failure data for mechanical devices.

It’s hard to believe that the IEC61511 standard has been in existence since 2003, and most companies operating in the process, chemical, and refining industries (or any other hazardous process manufacturer) have adopted its practices. It’s also significant that any plants that were built back then with a Safety Instrumented…

With the pressure to get moving on a project, risk analysis often gets short changed of both the time and resources it needs to succeed. Making risk analysis a low priority is a false economy, because it has the potential to provide significant value for money. This webinar will give you tips on how to make your next risk analysis one of the most valuable elements of the project. You will learn techniques for avoiding pitfalls and identifying potential design and operation improvements that will save and earn money throughout the life of the plant.

Can we really ship a bug-free product? That’s a tough question to answer. Bugs originate in many places and not all bugs are the same severity. But you can’t control what you don’t measure. If you log and classify defects, and control the way changes are made, there may be…

Capability Maturity Model Integration, (CMMI ™) is a way to measure and improve the capability and maturity of such processes. Although it can apply across the broader product development and maintenance cycle, it is still mostly used for software engineering. CMMI is a process-improvement-based, goal-oriented framework. Several levels of capability…
