Course Description

IEC 61511 is the new process Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) standard from IEC. This international standard defines the requirements for the specification, design, installation, operation, and maintenance of SIS. This standard is expected to be approved in the near future and will replace ANSI/ISA 84.01 in North America. It is focuses on end user applications in the process industries e.g. chemical, oil refining, oil and gas production, pulp and paper, and non-nuclear power generation.

Safety Life Cycle, Hazard and Risk analysis, tolerable risk, risk reduction, Intro to LOPA, Safety Instrumented Functions and Safety Integrity Level selection using Qualitative techniques.
• Safety related hardware, software, and SIS architectures, Safety equirements specification ?objectives and requirements, Conceptual and detailed design issues, Installation and commissioning, safety review validation, operation and maintenance, modification and decommissioning.
