Introduction to IEC 61511
IEC 61511 is the new process Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) standard from IEC. This international standard
defines the requirements for the specification, design, installation, operation, and maintenance of SIS. This standard
is expected to be approved in the near future and will replace ANSI/ISA 84.01 in North America. It is focuses on end
user applications in the process industries e.g. chemical, oil refining, oil and gas production, pulp and paper, and
non-nuclear power generation.
